Trip number two from 7/8 was a last minute adventure.
The lake was just too good to be true for the morning crew, and I had some time in the evening, so I made a call to this duo and they were able to make it happen in a hurry.

We hit the same grounds as I did in the morning with a similar program and the results didnt disappoint. We had a shortened window of time with the evening launch, but the lake and the fish cooperated nicely and we were able to load the livewell in no time.

Its been a blessing to watch so many of these kiddos grow into their own fishing ability and today was an awesome example of that. Ive been lucky to witness this young man go from barely knowing the best way to get a walleye to the boat to watching him jumping to grab rods the second they get a bite. What a blast, and what a rush!

Awesome times on a beautiful lake, and I was heading to do it again the next day.

That reminds me, let me know if youd like to be put on the on-call list and maybe we can make this happen for you too.

Catch up post from a little bit ago.

Father and son a long time coming.
A graduation present, and what a gift today was.

A gift certificate for a graduation present a while back connected us, and luck would bring us together. I had a last minute cancellation and they happened to be available. Crazy how that happens.

We were met with a beautiful lake and some hungry walters. It never gets old introducing new folks to the crazy fishery we are so lucky to have.

We hit the deeper side of the south side of the trench to start our day and the fish didnt give us a ton of time to do our thing before they started in on us. The fishing has been nothing short of amazing lately and this day played out that was as well. Dipseys rods continue to do a ton of work for me. We had a hard time keeping 4-6 rods in the water until it was time to wrap up our walleye adventures and head for the sheep grounds. A little bit of jigging, and then we were headed home to pack up their catch.

Harnesses continue to produce for me. Colors dont seem to be as critical as depth, and dialing depth has never been as easy as it is with live scope.
The way my unit is set up, I can see the harnesses and even the swivels on my lines at depth, so dialing in the baits to the fish has never been more precise.

Glass lake and hungry walleygators.

Doubles for the day started off the day with a new crew that I’ve been looking forward to fishing with. Our email and text exchange prior to the trip had me primed for the hilarity that we had today. We had a great time and man did these guys smoke them in the rods today. Only a couple of their fish came unbuttoned all morning. If you can call it “all morning”.
We had a million of our closest friends at the launch this am, that lead to a delayed start. A long-ish boat ride was made shorter thanks to Yamaha Outboards and we were in the honey hole in no time.
The rods were flying and the shenanigans were plentiful.

Overall the game plan was the same as normal, but our target depth was a tiny bit shallower all day. 65-75 FOW. I went slow, I pulled worms, and we filled the livewell a couple times 🎣🎣
Fishing remains crazy, if you like to get out you better get to me before it’s too late.

Trip two of the day landed some more great for a family trio that were 2/3 completely new to walleye fish and 1/3 completely new to fishing total. Who would have thought a first ever fish catch would happen today and who knew it would be a 20”+ walleye.

Great day overall, now sleep, back at it tomorrow.

We had a blast, and can’t not wait until next year! We have not laughed like that in a while. Thank you for being the kind fun human you are and giving us memories we will have forever!

Go man go love to see this for your people you are a great host

Nice job Rob…

Double boat duty today!
Thanks to Ed Soboslay for joining in the fun again this morning.

Coming off the crazy conditions yesterday we knew it would be a puzzle to solve out there today. We headed to some familiar territory and it was a little off. I started a little in the shallower side and had a decent bite right out of the gate. We had rods moving constantly until we hit the 75 foot line and it dried up in a hurry. We were both filling our boats in short order. One slide north for me, a reset further south and our second short north slide loaded the livewell with some great fish this morning.

It was a pleasure to join my guests in celebrating a retirement and new beginnings with these fellas. Overall we had a great morning and despite our plan taking some tweaking we still had a quick trip overall.

Fishing was best for me in 65-75 FOW and we’re still targeting fish that were hovering around the 40 foot mark.

Great times on the big pond this morning!
Meat bags for days!!

3 devs and a grandfather walk onto a boat. 😆
I know that’s not the typical setup for a great joke, but it was the plot and setting for what turned into a pretty amazing day on the water yesterday. I had the pleasure of hosting two fellas and their dad today. These fellas are living that software development life that I spent most of my career wrapped in. It was refreshing to chat about all the crazy stuff that we’ve all dealt with in the technology world while experiencing another amazing walleye bite. There were fish coming in one after another and the nerdy references were flying.

The guys were spot on with the rods, and as luck would have it Dad/Grandpa was the lucky dog of the day. It seemed like every time he grabbed a rod it had a big fish on it.

We spent most of our time in 70-80 FOW chasing a line of fish that are suspended around 40 feet down. As long as the gear was in that neighborhood we were getting consistent bites from solid fish. Gear choices were all over the map. I’m still slow rolling around 1.3 - 1.7 mph with worms. Chartreuse based colors seemed to do best yesterday for some reason despite the sunny conditions. Bottom line, get out there and get your stuff in front of the suspended fish and you’ll be set. The bigger fish seem to be on the higher side.
We wrapped up their walleye catching around 8am, pulled all the gear and headed for sheep country. From there we spent the remainder of our time using my live scope to vertical jig blade baits into the mouths of some hungry sheephead on medium lite spinning tackle. I’m still having a ball watching fish take all kinds of baits on the live scope, what an incredible tool it’s become. Oh, and it’s super fun too! The jigging bite can be a little tricky on a day that was blowing it was, but they guys managed to pull in a healthy number of them before we decided to head in to clean their walleye.

Great job captain 👏

Nice…

Repeat guests, piles and smiles.

A couple of my frequent fishy folks wanted to add a few more to the party for some friendly girls vs guys competition on their weekend of fun. Thanks to captain Ed for joining the party and helping me get all six of the crew on the water this morning.

The lake couldn’t have been nicer and the fish couldn’t have been more cooperative.
We headed out to familiar territory and found a steady bite right out of the gate. My slow worms and Ed’s high speed spoons and cranks programs were stacking fish in our boats almost immediately upon arrival. We barely had time for shenanigans, but we both had our share of missed opportunities. The fish were acting a little shy, with a handful popping off in the net and a few that didn’t make it to the net on both boats.

As expected, the lucky ladies won the big fish of the day with captain Ed landing a 12 lb steelhead right out of the gate and topping his cooler with a 10.4 lb unicorn of a giant walleye as well. My guys had a solid runner up walleye that by most standards was also a pig, but certainly not a 10 pounder. We spent most of our time from 60-75 fow targeting fish that were suspended around 40 feet down. We both stuffed our boats in no time and headed to the Walnut Creek butcher shop where we completely stuffed my friend’s cooler with all the fish meats.

Today definitely shows there are more ways to skin a cat. Do what works for you and have a ball!

Yes was a good day and cought alot, was alot of fun like always

Nice quality fish

We had a blast.

Wow nice

Birthdays with a side of education?!?

This day we celebrated a queens birthday by having an instructional day on the water with a couple guests that joined me during the FishUSA walleyepalooza this spring.
The goal? See the seminar tips and tricks in action.
It was a perfect setup. I had some shallower fish located, and that is the PERFECT setup to run our small boat worm based walleye vacuum, and thats what we did. We made a long run west and targeted fish from about 15 feet down to the bottom using all the methods we outlined during the seminar. The bottom bouncers were on fire first thing in the morning. We had a ton of fish hitting the net of all shapes and sizes, my crew got to see exactly why I fish this way. As the day continued the bouncer production waned a bit, and the dipseys and board rods kept us busy. My boards were running unassisted (no weight) flicker minnows and deep hit sticks in about every color you can imagine. Leads were anywhere from 70 to 110 feet. Yes 75 feet unassisted was catching fish consistently.
A Deep Hit stick in Pink Lemonade was the hero of the day, but it seemed like any color that was in the right area was quickly scooped up. There are some high fish out there that Im betting most people are ignoring. It might surprise you how big they are too.

Quote of the day after a we landed a pretty standard 20 inch walleye on a bouncer tried to cross the boat through the motors and multiple lines: I feel like I just gave birth! he was cracking up, I was cracking up. This days queen of the vessel was unimpressed with us. She was quick to point out how wrong he was. But, luckily she didnt abuse us too badly.
This is hands on full contact fishing at its finest!
If youve always thought that walleye dont fight you have to give this a try.
My morning availability is limited, but afternoons are still pretty flexible. Give me a call asap if youd like to give this a shot.

Side note:
Fun tool of the year so far... Garmin Livescope... I never would have thought it was be such an asset trolling AKA power drifting. My holy smokes... When you know exactly where your gear is running you can dial program to a T. I think Im going. to love this thing...

Awesome report...is your LS on the bow motor or pole? Still trying to figure out best way to utilize it.

Father’s Day celebration number two of the year.

When your dad works a ton and barely takes a day off, you should definitely take him fishing!

An afternoon trip after a road trip is what the doctor ordered for this pair.
We hit the water right around 1pm with visions of greenbacks dancing in our heads. Target depth number one was in the low 60s, and we graphed around a little bit before landing on some promising Golden Arches… not those arches…

The marks were scattered, but present. We set up without much fanfare and I was able to get setup before the action started. Just when I was starting to wonder what the deal was, the fish decided it was time to eat. From there on out they were not bashful and my livewell was quickly gathering sammiches. Worms for the win, Colorado and butterfly blades were on fire and my slow roll was loading the boat. It wasn’t long until we were wrapping up out deep and making a move to my petting zoo for some additional farm animal fun. Colors didn’t seem to matter much, against popular school of thought I had Chartruese and chrome firing together for some reason. Sometimes what’s right is just what works.
This was the biggest box of the season so far. My guests let me know that their 12 fish completely cleaned and ready for the freezer yielded 18 lbs of fillets. That’s not something I generally keep track of, but it was a haul.

We joked, we carried on and we were in harvest mode for a short stretch. My guests were pros on the rods. It was warm and the fishing was hot. What a day indeed. See you on the water!

Nice catch

Awesome report!

4/25
My first official Laker trip of the season started off with a bang.
A couple regulars to the walleye game made their way to me a little earlier this year. Heavy pulling fish were on the agenda and we were lucky enough that they cooperated. The first time you tussle with one of these beasts is an eye opening good time. Smiles goals achieved, sore arms were welcome. #stinkupyourcoathugalaketrout.

My Laker season really started a while ago. We’ve been catching them on and off for quite a while just double checking the fish making sure we were on them, so that when the time came, we could all have some success out there.

The most recent intel gave me a great starting point, and our first visitor joined the party after about 30 minutes. We continued on our way bumping into a few slimy dinosaurs trolling through my spring time happy place.

We fished from 55-90 fow at different times and caught fish all over the place. The biggest fish of the day (and last fish of the day) came as we straddled the 90 foot mark.

The fish are certainly scattered a bit right now.
We boated 16 on day one catching a multipack of sizes along the way. Riggers with attractors did most of the work, but three out of my four dipseys were chipping in also.
